Of all the snowflakes captured by this artist, I find that this image stands out as the most pristine and dramatic.
While paler blues and softer tones of crisp white are often associated as the ideal of a wintry image, this holds slightly darker tones, if only by 'degrees', as it were. The darker backdrop and the central focus on this singular flake make it much more than it might seem at a passing glance to most viewers. The lack of focus on any surrounding flakes create a feeling of solitude, and the darkness beyond more representative of a more awe-inspiring setting such as the night sky, or distance space.
This singular flake is not just a diminutive architectural wonder by nature, but a representation of the building blocks of life. It is defiant and resolute; structural branches like that of trees, or the web of a spider, fine points like icily jutting blades held aloft, shouting silently in a microscopic voice: "I am one among many, but I am still a one and I hold firm, a link in the chain of the universe that keeps the balance... and I will be recognized."
